The optic nerve connects to the retina and is formed by many nerve fibers, like an electric cable is composed of many cables.<\/p><p>The optic nerve sends signals from the retina to the brain where these signals are interpreted as the images we see.<\/p><p>In the vast majority,\u00a0<strong>glaucoma<\/strong>\u00a0is associated with high intraocular pressure. Intraocular pressure normal values are \u200b\u200bbetween 10 and 21 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg); Glaucoma is characterized by increased IOP above normal values. Sometimes you can find ocular hypertension at the time of the consultation, and sometimes it is normal that this tension may be elevated in other times of the day.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-af2fd96 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"af2fd96\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-a46efbb\" data-id=\"a46efbb\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-badcf6b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"badcf6b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In cases where there are signs of glaucoma in the absence of ocular hypertension, it is very important to daily monitoring ocular pressure fluctuations in search of the same, by a pressure curve daily. There is also the\u00a0<strong>Normal tension glaucoma<\/strong>. There are also other risk factors that may contribute:<\/p><ul><li>Having elevated IOP<\/li><li>Being older than 40 years<\/li><li>Family history of glaucoma<\/li><li>Myopia<\/li><li>Black Race<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-31a3a0db\" data-id=\"31a3a0db\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element glaucoma\n<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e9ade50 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e9ade50\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>Do not forget to apply your drops every day.<\/li><li>Do not stop treatment when you attend with your doctor.<\/li><li>If you use more than one dropper bottle, remember to leave 10 to 15 minutes between drops.<\/li><li>Occlude the lachrymal punctual in order to reduce the systemic effects of the drug. You can do this by closing your eyes for 5 to 10 minutes or placing your index finger on the punctum.<\/li><li>Use medications as directed by your ophthalmologist. Do not let them change the product in the pharmacy, or the dose or frequency. Increasing the number of drops applied only increases the undesirable effects.<\/li><li>In case of discomfort immediately consult your doctor, but do not stop treatment.<\/li><li>Avoid self-medication and alternative medicine. Remember that many commonly used drugs are contraindicated in glaucoma.<\/li><li>Your drugs are part of their daily routine (brushing, meals, time to wake or sleep, favorite programs, etc.): Do not forget.<\/li><li>If you are diabetic or hypertensive, keep controlled their blood pressure and blood sugar level.<\/li><li>Perform physical exercise routinely.<\/li><li>Make sure you have understood all indications.<\/li><li>Always attend the controls with your ophthalmologist.<\/li><\/ul><div>\u00a0<\/div><article id=\"post-138\" class=\"post-138 enfermedad type-enfermedad status-publish hentry tipodeenfermedad-glaucoma\"><div class=\"entry-content w-container\"><div class=\"w-row row_especialista\"><div class=\"w-col w-col-8\"><div class=\"info_enfermedad\"><p>Treatment and medical care are not enough if you do not become aware of the above recommendations.
